I think I’ve got it
I think I finally understand
Forgiveness and trust don’t have to go hand-in-hand
The truth was out there waiting for me
But it was something that I just wasn’t ready to see
She may not be deserving of forgiveness
But that isn’t for me to decide
Jesus set the perfect example when He forgave me of my sins
From the cross to which He was tied
His commandments dictate that I forgive
Whether the offender is repentant or not
I shouldn’t have waited and let years drag on by
I should have said “You are forgiven” right there on the spot
Now, as for trust – that’s another thing
The Bible doesn’t require that I restore a prior sense of trust
It doesn’t tell me that I must keep her close by
Tucked up tightly beneath my wing
God doesn’t want to see me staying in a situation where I continue to be hurt
He tells me it’s okay to remove her from my life
But, He likes to remind me that forgiveness isn’t an option
It’s only a matter of when
So, Thank You God for this painful reminder of what it is that I must do
Now, I offer up my forgiveness for all the hurt she put me through
As for my trust, I’ll place it safely where it does the most good
I offer up my trust & I offer it up to You
