It's a Happy Birthday season
Yet we cannot sing His name
Our children are told it's all about Santa
The true reason is lost to the world
We look all around and what do we see?
Glitzy lights all aglow; Santa and reindeer on every corner
Turn on the TV and what do we hear?
Buy this - Buy that - Buy, Buy, Buy
Children write lists of all the things they must have
We have parties at home, at work and at school and even some churches
"Merry Christmas to all" rolls right off our tongues
We say it's a season of Love, Joy and Peace
Yet we spend all our time running ragged buying gifts for all on our lists
We cook and we clean; we shop and we wrap
The days go by in a blur
Before we know it the morning arrives
" Look Mommy, Santa Claus came-are all of these presents mine?"
Paper is torn; ribbons and boxes fly all around
As quick as it came, the moment has ended
Now that it's over we can take time to relax
We contemplate the season and all it meant to us
In all that time did we ever stop and say
"Happy Birthday to the One that came to save the world?"
Jesus is the reason that we should celebrate this season
So this year as we say Merry Christmas,
let's put the focus back where it should be - on the CHRIST.
" Merry CHRISTmas to all and to all a good night"
