Flashes of fear erupting from deep within the core of my very soul
Like a simmering volcano harboring its lava just waiting to burst
Neither time nor place has any bearing on the activity brewing just beneath the surface
Days, months or even years may pass with no seismic activity at all
Bubbling beneath the surface the molten lava begins to heat
The rocks crash and tumble, banging one against another
The pressure begins to swell as the steam builds up inside
Hotter and hotter, tighter and tighter the pressure continues to grow
It’s so easy to overlook the simple signs of what’s brewing just beneath the skin
The desire to be safe and secure in our own little world
Oblivious to the danger the volcano presents to itself
Turning a blind eye to that which we want to ignore
Suddenly the air is filled with a deafening roar as the volcano lets loose
Every nerve and fiber within its very being is stretched to the extreme
Rumbling, tumbling, ripping and tearing apart at its weakening seams
Leaving me with a painful reminder of the fragility of life
